Projects

I have learned a considerable number of lessons while writing material for the web, or experimenting with new technologies, and I feel compelled to share these with other people setting out to create their own web sites or web-based projects. Maybe it's the teacher (or teaching assistant) in me, still lying around since graduate school. Or, maybe it's just a cheap ploy to show off what I can do in an attempt to get someone to hire me to do it at an exorbitant salary. I'll let you be the judge.

I've written a whole series of passages on the design of this site (which are too messy for publishing right now), including how I implemented one of its more novel (hidden) features: the collection of client-side statistics to tell me what screen resolution and color depth people are using to view my site.

This latest redesign of my site was mostly influenced by the work I did on my Scotland travel journal, particularly in the overall layout and multi-page sectioning (pageflows). I've written up the technical details of how I designed the journal using JavaScript.

I also used PHP for the first time on this site. To get my feet wet, and to tone up my JavaScript/DHTML skills, I built the CD Mix Arranger utility. I believe this officially makes me an ASP.
