There are many ways to get to our house by car. We currently live in the
Magnolia neighborhood, located north and west of Pike Place. Getting to
Magnolia is usually pretty easy if you're coming from the north or south
(travelling east/west in Seattle is usually a pain, but also easy). Once in
Magnolia, there are a couple of tricky turns, but nothing insurmountable.
Below are general directions, if you're already familiar with getting
around Seattle. If you need more detailed directions, just send me an email
and let us know where you're coming from. Note that it helps to make your
way to the Seattle area, first, if you haven't already done that.
From neighborhoods north of Seattle:
Travel west on N. 46th St. (which turns into Market St. in
Ballard), N. 85th, or N. 100th St. to 15th Avenue West.
Turn left and travel south, across the Ballard Bridge.
Immediately after crossing the bridge, turn
right onto Emerson St. (unmarked).
Continue through two traffic lights, until you get to a blinking red
light at Gilman Ave. W..
Turn right and follow this road about one mile until
it curves left (it turns into Government Way).
At the blinking yellow light, the road veers to the right.
Turn left and immediately turn right onto 32nd
Avenue West. This is the only tricky part, but here's a tip:
from the intersection, it appears as though you are going
straight.
Make the next left onto West Mansell
St (a dead end). Ours is number 3118, the second driveway on the
left, the only extremely vertical house on the block.
From downtown:
From downtown, you can either:
Choose your favorite northbound street and head north to
Denny Way. Turn turn left (head west) on Denny Way
until it veers right (north) and turns into Elliott Ave. W.
-or-
Take 99 north and get off at Western Avenue, before the underpass.
Continue along Western Ave until it turns into Elliott Ave. W.
Elliott Avenue will eventually turn into 15th Avenue West.
Immediately before reaching the Ballard Bridge, exit
right and follow the signs toward Emerson Street.
Go around and back over Western, then turn left at
the stop sign onto Emerson Street.
Follow directions above (fourth bullet).
Via I-5, driving South:
Take I-5 to the N. 105th
Street/Northgate exit.
Take the first offramp, and turn right
at the traffic light onto N. 105th Street.
Turn left on Aurora Ave. (Route
99).
Turn right on N. 100th St.
Follow this road until it curves to the left (after Greenwood Ave.)
and eventually becomes 15th Avenue West.
Follow the directions at the top of the page.
Via I-5, driving North:
Take I-5 to Mercer Street, which is
Exit 167 on the left-hand side.
At end of exit ramp, turn right onto Fairview
Avenue, then immediately turn left onto Valley
St.
When Valley Street forks to the right, keep going straight so that
you go under the overpass. (You are now on Broad Street.)
Turn right on Denny Way.
Continue on Denny Way until it veers right and turns into Elliott
Ave. W.
Now follow the directions above, as if coming from downtown.
