Miraflores Locks —
The entrance to the first set of locks on the canal, Miraflores Locks.
You can see how the approximately 197 million liters of water has been
drained from the area on the left, as it prepares to take in a ship or
two from the Pacific Ocean.

Ship Passing Miraflores Locks —
Two locomotives position themselves at the back of a ship to help propel
it through the lock, while two more assist at the front. Ships use their
own propulsion through most of the canal, but the locomotives are used
in the entryways and exitways of the locks to help it stay on a straight
course.

Ship Passing Miraflores Locks —
The rest of the giant cargo ship passing through the locks, one of the
approximately 13000-14000 that go through each year.

Erin and the Araucaria —
Erin gives some perspective to the immense size of the ships passing
through Miraflores Locks. Only two locomotives on this ship (both at the
rear), since it's quite obviously unladen.

Keith in Old Locomotive —
Keith stands in the doorway of an old, retired locomotive used to pull
ships through the locks. A monstrous cargo ship passes through in the
background.
