View of City from Cerro Panecillo —
View of downtown Quito (and beyond) from the top of Cerro Panecillo.
From here (though not in this photo alone), you can really see just
how long and narrow the city is, and how it adapted to the geography
as it developed.

View of City from Cerro Panecillo —
Wider view of Quito, though even at this angle, only 1/3 or so of the
41 kilometers in length is visible. The city isn't very wide, though,
and after only 5-6 km, it rolls into the valley in the upper-right.

Virgin of Quito —
Statuette of the Virgin of Quito on Cerro Panecillo. The chains you see on
the left are most likely the only thing that's kept it from being stolen
so far.

Chiva at Days of Quito —
These giant party buses cruise the streets from dusk until dawn,
with patriotic individuals dancing, drinking, and singing their
favorite local tunes along with their travelling marching band.

Flamenco Music —
The Days of Quito are marked with parties and music for several straight
days. We took advantage of the action and popped over to the Hotel
Donn Carlton to listen — for free,
even — to some local flamenco musicians. The dinner
wasn't even half-bad, either.

Entrance to Museum —
We were told that a great museum exists at the Cultural Center, however
we had to walk all around just to find the entrance. For the longest
time, we thought this was it, and marvelled at how appropriate it was
that someone would have stolen the entrance.

Volcano —
Volcano Pichincha towers over Quito, as seen here from outside the
Cultural Center.
