More tips...
If your browser supports JavaScript, and you have it disabled, turn it on. You don't have to, but the navigation at the top of each page will be much more robust. Move your mouse over each of the categories listed at the top, and you'll see a list of the pages there just below. The only other place JavaScript is used is for faster validation of some form fields, and for displaying my direct email address at the bottom of each page (to deter spam-bots). But again, it's not required.
If the fonts seem annoyingly large (most sites do to me), try making them a little smaller. If you're on Windows, the easiest way is to use the shortcut keys corresponding to your browser to go down or up one font size at a time:
Don't be afraid of the photos if you're using a 56 kbps modem. The site is optimized for fast downloads by standard modem users and broadband users alike. Most photos can be viewed on a 56kbps modem in under 15 seconds; all of them should be viewable in less than 30.
For those technically-inclined geeks who want to know how I built the site, every page is done by hand using only a text editor (yes, I'm still old fashioned in that way). The pages themselves are automatically rendered using an XML-based template system I wrote myself using PHP. The poll is also a custom job, done using PHP. If you're interested in using any of the code, I'd be happy to share it, but there's NO documentation for any of it at this time, and you'd probably have to wait at least a year to get any.
